Day One: Arrive at Louisville and check into the Galt House. A
Visitours tour guide will greet us and take us on a tour. We will drive
along historic West Main Street, and make our first stop at Glassworks.
Here we will visit the hot glass studios, the flameworking studios. and
the cold glass working studios of Architectural Glass Art. We will
continue our tour through downtown along Louisville’s new “front door,”
Waterfront park, which is the new $60 million development along the
Ohio River. Finally, before returning to the hotel, we will enjoy an
evening cruise on the Ohio River, along with a delicious dinner buffet,
on the Belle of Louisville. (D)
Day Two: We begin our day at Lynn’s Paradise Cafe. Enjoy her famous
Bourbon Ball French Toast, a breakfast burrito or some of your old favorites. Next, we will experience the KENTUCKYSHOW!, a breathtaking 30-minute, multimedia show that provides intimate and unique views of a state that is rich in heritage. Our next stop will be at the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. Here we will watch as bats are
handcrafted and browse the history of “America’s Pastime,” featuring mementos from Babe Ruth to Ken Grifey, Jr. As we arrive at our next stop, we will realize that we have stepped back in time by hundreds of millions of years! The fossil beds at the Falls of the Ohio provide living proof that an ocean and coral reef existed more than 350 million years ago in what is now Clark County. More than 220 acres of exposed, Devonian age fossil beds make up the Falls of Ohio. In the evening we will go to Joe Huber’s Family Farm, where we will receive a warm welcome and delicious home-cooked, meal! We will also have time to browse the raft shop, tour the gardens, and shop at the fruit stand.
Finally, we will return to the Galt House. (B,D)
Day Three: Begin our morning with a behind
the scenes look at historic Churchill Downs,
home of the legendary Kentucky Derby. Enjoy
a hearty breakfast in the track kitchen where
jockeys and trainers discuss the details of
training Thoroughbreds for the “Sport of
Kings.” Watch as the horses practice their
racing skills. The Kentucky Derby Museum
features exciting exhibits dedicated to the“Greatest two minutes in sports.” Weather
permitting; we will take part in a brief walking
tour of legendary Churchill Downs, to include
the historic Grandstand and Paddock area.
Then, we will depart for home. (B)
